Softball Takes Down Fairfield 6-1 in an In-State Rival
The Central Connecticut softball team secured their 13th win after beating Fairfield 6-1 at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Liz Hamilton (5-2) earned her fifth win of the season. She went the distance for The Blue Devils and allowed four hits, one earned run with eight strikeouts in seven innings. Senior third baseman Paige Stringer hit her seventh home run of the season with a three-run blast that was the difference maker in the contest.
Alyssa Weinburg (3-7) suffered her seventh loss of the season. She allowed three hits and five runs in two innings of work for The Stags. in 10.0 innings pitched and gave up just one run in her ninth win of the season. Dallas Andrews loan hit was an RBI double, and Lily Hinkle plated the game-winning run for The Sharks with a sacrifice fly.

KEY MOMENTS
BOTTOM 1ST: Meg Gorman singled and Regan Vunak walked to lead the Blue Devils off with two runners on and nobody out. Paige Stringer moved the runners with a groundball to short and Ava Cino drove in Gorman and reached base on an error from the second baseman. Ashlyn Desaulniers did her job to plate Vunak with a sacrifice fly to center field that gave Central a 2-0 lead.
BOTTOM 3ND: Meg Gorman drew a walk and Vunak singled to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Paige Stringer followed with a three-run blast to right field and The Blue Devils took a 5-0 lead.
TOP 4th: The Stags plated their only run of the game on a homerun from Meghan Forbes.
BOTTOM 6th: Ava Cino and Gianna D'Amico drew walks to bring up Morgan Goodspeed with two outs. Goodspeed lined a base hit to centerfield and pinch runner Abigail Mitchell flew around third and slid around the tag attempt at home to plate Central's 6th run of the ball game.
