Blue Devils Blast Four Homeruns in Sweep vs Saint Peters Saturday
Central Connecticut State University softball swept Saint Peters University in a doubleheader this afternoon at the CCSU Softball Field. The Blue Devils won game one 4-3 and game two 8-0.

KEY MOMENTS
GAME ONE
- Meg Gorman started the Blue Devils off with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning that gave Central an early 1-0 lead. Reagan Vunak got a hold of one in her first collegiate at-bat sending a ball over the center field fence for a home run to give Central a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
- Centrals homerun leader from last season, Paige Stringer, added to the hit parade with a solo shot of her own to give her team a 3-0 lead in the third.
- In the top of the 5th a walk, bunt single, and another walk loaded the bases for Saint Peters with one out. Cara McNulty laced a base-clearing double to right field to tie the game 3-3.
- In the bottom of the 6th Ava Cino hit The Blue Devil's fourth solo homerun of the game to give her team a 4-3 advantage going into the final inning.
- In the top of the 7th, Sydney Orndorf laced a leadoff double to right field for The Peacocks, but a perfectly executed relay from The Blue Devils soiled Saint Peter's chances for a late comeback. Whittaker finished off the inning and Central took game one.
GAME TWO
- The Blue Devils' sticks were on fire to start game two. In the bottom of the first, the bases were quickly loaded for Ava Cino who singled to score Meg Gorman. Machado followed with a double to score two more as Central took a 3-0 lead. The Blue Devils went on to score three more runs (one unearned) in the inning with RBIs from Grace Lawton and Skyler Warn.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Paige Stringer reached on an error and scored Gorman who doubled, to take a 7-0 lead.
- With runners on first and third Reagan Vunak sent the Peacocks packing with a fielder choice that scored Meg Gorman at first. The 8-0 margin after six innings ended the contest via the mercy rule and The Blue Devils completed their first sweep of the 2024 season.
NOTES
- The Blue Devils jump out to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2018-19.
- February 10th is the earliest Central Connecticut has played in its 36-year history (2/18/23 at Hampton L, 4-7).
- Freshman hurler Liz Hamilton took the mound for CCSU in game two. She struck out six and allowed 3 hits and 0 runs to cross in her first collegiate win.
- Meg Gorman and Paige Stringer each had 4 hits in 7 at-bats including a homerun and an RBI.
- The Blue Devils had 8 extra-base hits and only 4 strikeouts in today's doubleheader.
