Softball Knocked Out of NEC Tournament by SFU
Central Connecticut State University softball fell to the number one seed, the Saint Francis Red Flash, 2-1, in the second round of the NEC Tournament this afternoon.
Central Connecticut State University softball fell to the number one seed, the Saint Francis Red Flash, 2-1, in the second round of the NEC Tournament this afternoon. Today's game marks the end of the Blue Devils remarkable 2023 season.

The Blue Devils came in hot, getting on the board in the top of the first. Ashlyn Desaulniers got on base after being hit by a pitch before stealing second. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch to put herself in scoring position. Meg Gorman singled through the left side to drive in the run.

The Red Flash answered in the bottom of the first. With runners on second and third, Brianna Sawyers sent a groundball to short, which was overthrown to first. This allowed the two runners to score, giving SFU the 2-1 advantage.

Central showed out defensively, turning two in the bottom of the third. With Ashley Wruble on first, Olivia Ulam sent a line drive towards third. Paige Stringer made the diving catch and fired the throw to first, just in time for Grace Lawton to tag out Wruble.

The Red Flash were able to hold the Blue Devils off and secure the win, as both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the game.

CCSU finished the 2023 season with a 21-16 record overall and 14-7 in conference play.
