Softball Clinches Tournament Berth With Wins Over Stonehill

LOCATION: New Britain, CT / CCSU Softball Field 

RECORDS: CCSU (20-14, 13-7 NEC), Stonehill (4-41, 2-18 NEC) 

KEY MOMENTS  

GAME ONE 

• CCSU took control of the game in the bottom of the third when three Blue Devils homered. Meg Gorman and Paige Stringer hit back-to-back solo homeruns before Grace Lawton hit a two-run homer to give CCSU the 4-0 advantage. 

• Kendall LaMorte kept the momentum going in the fifth, sending one over the left field fence to add two more runs for the Blue Devils. 

• CCSU was able to end the game in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run homer from Kim Howard. 

GAME TWO 

• Howard stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first with Gorman on second and Stringer on third. She grounded out to short for an RBI, bringing Gorman home and advancing Stringer to scoring position. In the next at bat, Ava Cino reached first on an error, scoring Stringer to take the 2-0 lead. 

• The Blue Devils added a run in the following inning when Ashlyn Desaulniers singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw, driving in Brooke Fedison. 

• The Skyhawks tied things up in the visitors' portion of the third with a three-run homer from Isabella Therrien. 

• Central answered with an RBI single from LaMorte to take back the lead before Lawton hit her second homer of the day, this time driving in three runs to make the score 7-3. 

• CCSU scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth when Lawton singled to center to score LaMorte from third.  

NOTES   

• The Blue Devils' win in game one clinched an NEC tournament berth. 

• Five Blue Devils homered in today's games with Grace Lawton hitting two (one two-run homer and one three-run homer). 

• Kaylee Whittaker earned both wins in the pitching circle, fanning nine batters and improving her record to 19-9. 

• Central had 23 hits in today's games, 12 in game one and 11 in game two.
