Softball Earns Split Against SFU

LOCATION: Loretto, PA / Red Flash Softball Field 

RECORDS: CCSU (18-13, 11-6 NEC), SFU (19-22, 11-6 NEC) 

KEY MOMENTS  

GAME ONE 

• SFU took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Ashley Wruble hit a solo homer to left field. 

• The Blue Devils battled back in the visitor's portion of the third when Meg Gorman singled to second, driving in Ashlyn Desaulniers to tie the score, 1-1. In the next at-bat, Paige Stringer singled down the left field line to score Gorman and take the lead. 

• The Red Flash attempted to build momentum in the top of the fifth, putting runners on first and second with two outs. Central was able to end the inning when Olivia Ulam flied out to center field. 

• CCSU was able to maintain the lead through the bottom of the seventh to secure the win in game one. 

GAME TWO 

• Central came in hot in game two, taking the 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With Desaulniers in scoring position and two outs, Kim Howard singled down the left field line to drive in the run. 

• SFU answered with a homer to center from Ulam to tie the score. 

• The Red Flash threatened in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs and runners on second and third, Madelyn Wilson hit a ground ball to third. Paige Stringer was able to complete the play, throwing Wilson out at first to end the inning. 

• Saint Francis added a run to take the 2-1 lead in the fifth. With Lauren Aubry in scoring position, Ulam hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring her home. 

• The Blue Devils turned two in the sixth when Hernandez grounded to shortstop. Ava Cino made the toss to second before Skylar Warn fired a throw to first to complete the play. 

• SFU was able to end the game in the top of the seventh, turning a double play with the bases loaded. 

NOTES   

• Gorman and Stringer each had one hit and one RBI in game one. 

• Kaylee Whittaker fanned five batters in game one to secure the win. 

• Howard went 2-3 in game two. She had both of CCSU's two hits in the contest and an RBI.
