Softball Splits Doubleheader with LIU
Central Connecticut State University softball split a doubleheader against the LIU Sharks this afternoon. The Blue Devils were able to secure the victory in game one with homers from Ava Cino and Meg Gorman.

GAME ONE

Ashlyn Desaulniers kicked things off with a double to right center in the top of the first. Meg Gorman laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Desaulniers to third, before Paige Stringer flied out to right field to bring her home and give the Blue Devils the 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Gabby Padilla doubled to right center before advancing to third after Maya Avila grounded out to shortstop. She was then able to steal home on a wild pitch to even the score.

Central collected three runs in the visitors' portion of the fourth. Ava Cino sent one over the left field fence for a solo homer to build momentum for the Blue Devils. Jasmin Lasane then singled to center before Skylar Warn walked, putting runners on first and second. Brooke Fedison doubled to right center to bring both runners home and give CCSU the 4-1 advantage.

Gorman hit CCSU's second homer of the contest in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-1 game.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Camryn Lyman singled to right to drive in a run for the Sharks. Central was able to recover and end the inning, tagging out Lyman when Alexia Castro hit a ground ball to second.

LIU attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh, putting runners on first and second before Castro popped up to first, securing the win for the Blue Devils.
GAME TWO

LIU scored two runs in the bottom of the first when Avila hit an RBI double.

Dallas Andrews singled to center in the bottom of the second to score two runners and put a third in scoring position. Gabby Padilla then reached on an error which drove in two more runs. Padilla scored the Sharks' final run of the inning on a wild pitch, making the score 7-0.

The Sharks extended their lead in the fourth when Alyssa Polemeni hit a two-run homer to left field.

LIU was able to maintain control and end the game in the bottom of the fifth, with the final score being 9-0.
NOTES

Cino hit her second homer of the season in game one, while Gorman snagged her first.

Kaylee Whittaker fanned five batters in game one.

The Blue Devils had a total of 13 hits, with nine being in game one.
