Softball Snags 12-4 Win Over Merrimack

RECORDS: CCSU (11-8, 5-1 NEC), Merrimack (5-12, 3-3 NEC) 

KEY MOMENTS  

• The Warriors took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Ellen Hubbard hit a solo homer to left field. 

• Central hit their stride in the top of the second, scoring six runs. They built up momentum when Jasmin Lasane singled to center to get on base. She advanced to second when Skylar Warn was hit by a pitch before Ashlyn Desaulniers singled to right to drive in the run. 

• The Blue Devils kept the ball rolling in the next at-bat when Meg Gorman laid down a bunt to reach first and bring Warn home. 

• CCSU was able to add four more runs before the end of the inning with a grand slam from Kim Howard.  

• Central struck again in the top of the fourth when Ava Cino hit a two-run homer to left field, to make the score 8-1. 

• The Blue Devils were able to score four more runs in the top of the seventh, giving them the 12-1 lead with one inning left. Paige Stringer drove in a run when she singled to right, before Kim Howard hit her second homer of the game, driving in three runs. 

• Merrimack attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Sofia Palyan singled to left field with the bases loaded to bring in two runners and make the score 12-3. Madison Metcalf then grounded out to drive in the Warriors' final run. 

NOTES   

• Howard has now hit a total of three home runs this season, while Cino collected her first homer as a Blue Devil.

• Kaylee Whittaker collected her 10th win of the season in the pitching circle. 

• Four Blue Devils collected one or more RBIs during today's game: Kim Howard (7), Ava Cino (2), Ashlyn Desaulniers (1), and Paige Stringer (1). 

• CCSU had 16 hits and 11 RBIs, the most out of any other game this season.
