Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Merrimack

LOCATION: North Andover, MA / Martone-Mejail Field 

RECORDS: CCSU (10-8, 4-1 NEC), Merrimack (5-11, 3-2 NEC) 

KEY MOMENTS  

GAME ONE 

• CCSU got on the board in the top of the second. Ava Cino and Grace Lawton both singled to get on base before Skylar Warn and Brooke Fedison both walked to drive in a run. 

• Merrimack evened the score in the bottom of the second when Hannah Scarano hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. 

• The Blue Devils kept the momentum going in the top of the third when Paige Stringer hit a solo homer to right-center to regain the lead. 

• Stringer had another hit in the top of the fifth when she doubled down the left-field line. Kim Howard then singled to center to bring Stringer home and make the score 3-1. 

• The Warriors attempted to rally in the bottom of the fifth when Sydney Samuel hit a sacrifice fly with one out and the bases loaded.  

• With two outs, a runner in scoring position, and the opportunity to tie the game, Madie Fornwalt hit a fly ball to right field. Jazmin Lasane was able to make the catch to end the inning and ultimately secure the win. 

GAME TWO 

• Both teams went scoreless for the first four innings of game two. 

• Merrimack scored both of their runs, the only two of the game, in the bottom of the fifth. With a runner on second, Ellen Hubbard doubled to right center for the RBI before advancing to third on a throwing error. Courtney Lanpher then singled through the right side to drive in the second run. 

NOTES   

• Kaylee Whittaker pitched all 14 innings, securing one win in the pitching circle and giving up a total of four runs over the two games. 

• The Warriors handed the Blue Devils their first conference loss. 

• Stringer's homer was her second of the season. She hit her first in CCSU's 6-3 win over Manhattan on 3/6.
