Softball Sweeps UHart on Thursday

Central Connecticut State University softball swept the University of Hartford in a doubleheader this afternoon at the CCSU Softball Field. The Blue Devils won game one 4-3 and game two 3-1.

Central Connecticut State University softball swept the University of Hartford in a doubleheader this afternoon at the CCSU Softball Field. The Blue Devils won game one 4-3 and game two 3-1.

Game One - CCSU 4, UHart 3 

Game Two – CCSU 3, UHart 1

KEY MOMENTS  

GAME ONE 

  • The Blue Devils got on the board in the bottom of the first when Meg Gorman singled to right field to get on base. She stole second before Kim Howard doubled to center to drive in the run and take the 1-0 lead. 

  • CCSU added three runs in the bottom of the third, starting when Howard singled to right field. In the next at bat Paige Stringer singled to center to advance Howard to third. Ava Cino doubled to center field to bring both runners home. Skylar Warn drove in the third run of the inning with a single down the left field line, scoring Cino. 

  • Hartford attempted to rally in the top of the fourth. The Hawks scored their first run when Taylor Fitch stole second, causing a throwing error that allowed Mara Sczecienski to score. 

  • UHart was able to make the score 4-3 when Sam Nagel reached first on an error and advanced to second. This drove in Carly Mayhood and Fitch. 

  • CCSU was able to end the inning, striking out Anita Farkash swinging to keep their lead. 

  • The Blue Devils threatened in the bottom of the fifth when Stringer singled to get on base. Skylar Warn then singled to center to put Stringer in scoring position. Molly Bruyns popped up to second base to end the inning. 

  • Central was able to end the game in the top of the seventh, tagging Nagel out on a sacrifice bunt and striking out two batters. 

GAME TWO 

  • The Blue Devils came in hot in game two, taking the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With runners on second and third, Howard singled to center field to drive in CCSU's first run. Stringer then grounded out to bring another runner home. 

  • Central scored again in the bottom of the sixth. Stringer singled to get on base before Grace Lawton doubled to right field, driving in the run. 

  • The Hawks got on the board in the top of the seventh when Sam Nagel singled to right field with one out and Sczecienski on first and Azya Walker on second. Walker scored and Sczecienski advanced to third to make the score 3-1. 

  • After UHart scored, The Blue Devils were able to end the game, striking out Fitch and Sarah Serrano. 

NOTES   

  • CCSU is now 3-0 at home. 

  • Central knocked out 17 hits in the two games 

  • Katie Master earned her first win in the pitching circle in game two. 

  • The Blue Devils didn't allow a hit until the bottom of the sixth in game two. 

UP NEXT...   

The Blue Devils will play a doubleheader against Wagner at home on Saturday the 18th. The first game is set for 1:00 at the CCSU Softball Field.
