Softball Splits Double Header Against Manhattan

Central Connecticut State University softball split a double header against the Manhattan Jaspers on Monday afternoon in Riverdale, NY.  

GAME INFORMATION  

SCORES:  

Game One- CCSU 6, Manhattan 3 

Game Two- Manhattan 7, CCSU 6

KEY MOMENTS: Game One  

• Paige Stringer homered to center field in the top of the second to give CCSU the 1-0 lead. 

• The Blue Devils threatened in the top of the fourth, putting two runners on base before Mollie Charest struck out Adriana Manory and Hannah French to get out of the inning without allowing a run. 

• Central added another run in the top of the fifth inning, this time on a home run from Brooke Fedison. 

• The Jaspers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Marika Deemer doubled to right center, scoring all three of her teammates on base. 

• CCSU regained control of the game with a four-run inning in the top of the seventh, starting with a run from Fedison that scored on a throwing error by second baseman Kaitlyn Flood. This also advanced Ava Cino to first and Jazmin Lasane to third. 

• In the next at bat, Kim Howard doubled to right center, driving in Cino and Lasane.  

• Paige Stringer then singled to right field to bring Howard home and give the Blue Devils the 6-3 lead.  

KEY MOMENTS: Game Two  

• Manhattan took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on two sacrifice flies. 

• Tajiana Pickett hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-0. 

• Gabi Mills came around to score on an RBI double from Gabriella Mazzotta in the bottom of the fourth. 

• Pickett hit another two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to expand the Jaspers lead to 7-0. 

• Central got on the board with a four-run sixth inning that started with a run scoring double by Meg Gorman to drive Kendall LaMorte home. 

• Howard then hit a ball down the left field line for a ground-rule double, allowing Gorman and Ashlyn Desaulniers to score. 

• Howard advanced to third on a wild pitch before Grace Lawton singled to short, bringing Howard home 

• The Blue Devils attempted to rally in the top of the seventh when Gorman tripled down the right field line, scoring LaMorte to make the score 7-5. 

• Stringer followed with run scoring single to play Gorman and draw the Blue Devils within one, 7-6, but CCSU could not play the tying runs 

NOTES  

• The Blue Devils hit two homeruns today, one from Stringer and one from Fedison. 

• Kaylee Whittaker earned the win in the pitching circle in game one, fanning six

• CCSU knocked out 18 hits in the two games 

• The Blue Devils have won two of their last three games

The Blue Devils will head to Emmitsburg, MD to play at the Mount Softball Invitational. CCSU will face Mount Saint Mary's (11:00 am) and St. Bonaventure (3:00 pm) on Saturday the 11th.
