Softball Drops Doubleheader to SFU

Central Connecticut State softball dropped both games of its Saturday doubleheader to Saint Francis U, falling 13-2 and 2-0. The Blue Devils were no-hit in game two.

KEY MOMENTS

• The Blue Devils had a rough go of things in the first inning. SFU's first three batters all got on before a single knocked in the first run for the Red Flash. They scored again on an error in the outfield and were able to draw in a walk to add one more on. The Red Flash cleared the bases after this with a ball that traveled just past the fence at CCSU Softball Field, giving SFU an early 7-0 lead. They followed it up by striking out the side in the bottom of the first.
• The Red Flash were able to get two more runs on the board in the top of the second thanks to three straight singles.
• CCSU got something brewing in the bottom of the second inning. After Bri Walker and Matison Piripavel each drew walks, Meg Gorman loaded up the bases with a hard hit single to center field. Katie Master battled for a walk that brought in CCSU's first run of the day, but the Blue Devils were not able to get any more out of the bases loaded oppurtunity.
• The Red Flash loaded up the bases again in the top of the third inning, but this time CCSU was able to get out of the jam with only one runner crossing home plate. SFU struck out the side for the second time in the bottom of the fourth.
• SFU hit back-to-back doubles to start off the fifth inning that pushed their score to 11. A home run the next at bat was the final score of the game, ending things at 13-2.

KEY MOMENTS

• It was a tale of two games as Saturday's second game had a slow start. Neither team reached farther than second base over the first three innings, as Ashley Antonazzo was able to force the Red Flash bats into some playable balls or the defense.
• After three shutout innings, the Red Flash finally struck to lead off the fourth. A solo home run put them up 1-0 before Antonazzo quickly retired the side with some defensive pitching.
• The Red Flash again made use of a few hits in the top of the fifth, hitting two doubles that doubled their score.
• The Red Flash led off the fifth inning with a double that reached just past the glove of the defense. Another double later in the inning scored them, giving SFU a 2-0 lead. They struck out two batters in the bottom of the fifth to keep things moving.

NOTES

• The Red Flash had 23 strikeouts over the two games.
