Softball Sweeps Wagner with Two Wins on Senior Day
The Blue Devils honored Kaitlin Paterson on senior day.
The CCSU softball team took care of business on senior day, taking both games over Wagner and completing the four-game sweep. The Blue Devils used a combination of lights out pitching and timely hitting to secure the wins. Lone senior Kaitlin Paterson finished the day scoring two runs and collected her 150th career hit, putting her in the top 10 all-time at CCSU.
Freshman Paige Stringer also made history, breaking the single-season home run record with 11, after her blast to right field in the first inning of game one.

Home runs were in abundance early for CCSU, as catcher Rian Eigenmann led the game off with a solo shot to center field, her fourth of the season and third leadoff home run.

Paige Stringer then connected with a pitch and sent a drive over the fence in right field. It was the 11th blast for the freshman, which broke the CCSU home run single-season record. Seven previous Blue Devils held the record with 10 until Stringer broke it in the first inning. CCSU led 4-0 after one.

The Seahawks battled back in the top of the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Central's lead was cut to just one run.

The Blue Devils loaded the bases with two outs for outfielder Brooke Fedison. The freshman earned a walk and put CCSU up 5-3.

Kaylee Whittaker dominated on the mound the rest of the way, giving up just four hits in the final four innings. She tossed a complete game while striking out three batters and earning her sixth win of the season.

The first inning fire remained lit for CCSU, as the team put up five runs in the frame. Paige Stringer walked with the bases loaded to bring home the game's first run. Sophomore Kim Howard followed her with a double to right center, scoring two more runs. Brooke Fedison reached on an error which brought home one and finally Meg Gorman singled home Howard.

Pitcher Ashley Antonazzo found herself in a bit of trouble in the fourth, after giving up consecutive doubles and a run. Head coach Breanne Gleason brought in freshman Anaya Hunte, who shut down the side. Antonazzo finished the game going 3.1 innings and allowing just the one run.

The Blue Devils put up another five spot in the bottom half of the fourth, after hitting six consecutive singles. Backlund, Stringer, Fedison, Bruyns, and Gorman all earned a RBI in the inning and CCSU took a commanding 10-1 lead.

Hunte finished the game off in the top of the fifth with an easy 1-2-3 inning. She dealt 1.2 innings in relief and earned her 4th win of the year.
