NEC Releases 2021 Softball Coaches' Poll
The Blue Devils were picked sixth in this years coaches' poll.
The Central Connecticut softball team was picked to finish sixth in the 2020-21 Northeast Conference coaches' poll, announced on Thursday. The Blue Devils did not receive and first-place votes.
Central will begin its season on March 6 at home in a double-header against Boston University.
The Blue Devils played just 4 games in 2020 before the season was cancelled, going 1-3 including a win versus Rider in Nashville. In the 2019 campaign, Central finished 17-24 overall and 4-12 in the conference. The team posted a huge 11-9 win over Seton Hall out of the Big East Conference in Clearwater, Florida.
LIU was named the preseason favorite with seven first-place votes. Saint Francis U and Sacred Heart each collected one first-place vote. Mount St. Mary's, Bryant, CCSU, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, and Merrimack rounded out the poll.
A 32-game conference schedule will be contested in a round-robin format (all four-game series) over eight weeks with makeup dates from March 20 to May 9. A four-team, double-elimination NEC Championship will take place at the high seed from May 13-15.
