Softball Opens Season with Win Over Rider

The Central Connecticut softball team won its opener at the Tenn State Tiger Classic, defeating Rider 4-1 on Friday. The Blue Devils scored four runs in the secon inning to get all the offense they needed for the win.

KEY MOMENTS

• Central's first five batters in the second all reached safely. Junior Meg Dugas opened the scoring with a single, followed by a two-run double by senior Sarah Ogilvie. The Blue Devils' lead went to 4-0 after senior Giuliana Hathaway singled.
• Sophomore Kari Marks got the win, scattering six hits and allowing one run in 7.0 innings of work. She struck out eight.
• Dugas and senior Kaitlin Paterson each had two hits for CCSU, which collected seven hits as a team.  
• The Blue Devils' game against Bowling Green scheduled for earlier Friday was postponed due to weather in Nashville.
