Blue Devils Stopped By Holy Cross In Extra Innings
CCSU is back in action tomorrow at Boston U. for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped a close non-conference game with Holy Cross 2-0 in New Britain, CT on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders collected four of their seven hits in the top of the ninth inning en route to scoring both of the game's runs to end their six game losing streak.
The Blue Devils gained two runners with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to complete the comeback. CCSU drops to 14-20 on the year and Holy Cross improves to 8-20.
Senior catcher Brittany McNulla led the Blue Devils with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate including her fourth double of the season. Fellow senior Gianna Hathaway also recorded her fourth two-bagger of the year and was 1-for-2 with two walks.
The Crusaders' senior pitcher Katy Watson improved to 6-7 and gave up five hits with eight strikeouts in her fifth complete game this season. Holy Cross was led by Bella Jankowski who was 3-for-4 with three singles.
Senior Emily Sargent threw her 14th complete game of the season and moves her record to 7-9 on the year.
The Central Connecticut softball team will head to Boston, MA tomorrow for a pair of non-conference games against BU beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Terriers (20-17) topped the Blue Devils earlier this season on March 25, 6-2, in New Britain.
