Softball Captures 4-3 Win at Yale on Thursday
CCSU out-hit the Bulldogs 14-9.
The Central Connecticut softball team sealed a 4-3 victory at Yale on Thursday with a two-out RBI-single off the bat of senior Kerri Dadalski in the top of the seventh inning. Senior Emily Sargent threw her fifth complete game of the season and advances to 2-5 on the year.
The Blue Devils improve to 5-12 and Yale falls to 2-12 following Thursday's match. Seniors Brittany Camara and Lex Debrosse had stellar performances at the plate to lead the CCSU attack. Camara went 3-for-4 with three doubles and Debrosse was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day.
Camara led off the game with a bullet double to left center that was followed by a sophomore Emily Cronin bunt and a Debrosse walk to load the base path in the top of the first inning.
However, CCSU would leave the runners stranded after three straight outs. The Bulldogs answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases with one out. Sargent held off Yale's fifth and sixth batters with a strikeout and foul out to end the inning.
Central struck first in the top of the second inning on Camara second double of the game that scored junior Kaitlin Paterson from first base, giving CCSU the 1-0 edge.
Yale tied the score at 1-1 with a two-out RBI single to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
The Bulldogs decided to bring in Mary Baumann for their starter Terra Jerpbak in the beginning of the third inning. In the top of the fourth inning, freshman Sydney Bolan got the ball rolling with a double to right center.
Freshman Meg Dugas would pinch run for Bolan only to score later in the inning on a passed ball from third base. With Blue Devils on first and third and Camara up to bat, the senior would smack her third double to the game to give CCSU a 3-1 advantage.
Casalino hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring Yale to within 3-2.
The Bulldogs tied up the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a triple to left center from Tarte.
CCSU's Dadalski delivered a two-out RBI-single up the middle of the field that would prove to be the winning run.
Bolan finsihed the game with two doubles (2-for-4).
The Central Connecticut softball team will next travel to Hartford on Sunday, March 18 for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00p.m.
