Silverman Pitches One-Hitter, Softball Shuts Out Northern Colorado 6-0

The Central Connecticut softball team split a pair of contests on day two of the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, AK at Bogle Park. The Blue Devils stand at 3-6 on the season with two games remaining on Sunday before heading back to New Britain, CT.

GAME ONE

Sophomore transfer Peyton Silverman earned her first win and shutout as a Central Connecticut Blue Devil on Saturday in a 6-0 victory over Northern Colorado at the Razorback Invitational. Silverman (1-3) surrendered just one hit to the Bears and faced 24 batters in the game.

CCSU out-hit the Bears 6-1 and advanced to 3-5 on the season. Northern Colorado dropped to 10-10.

The Blue Devils opened the game with a four-run first inning on four hits and one Northern Colorado error. Senior Brittany Camara led off the inning with a single up the middle and was advanced to second on a clean bunt down the first base line from classmate Lex Debrosse.

The Bears would then commit a costly throwing error on a sac bunt from senior Brittany McNulla, allowing Camara to score for CCSU. Senior Tori Constantin then connected on a two out single to left field scoring Debrosse and McNulla. Not done, CCSU senior Gianna Hathaway ripped a single to right field to score Constantin from second and cap off a superb half inning for the Blue Devils.

With two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth inning, Camara delivered a hard-hit grounder that scored Hathaway from third. Junior Kaitlin Paterson tagged and was sent home on a Debrosse sac fly to right field giving CCSU a 6-0 edge.

The Bears sole hit of the game came off the bat of their first baseman Kelli Kleis in the top of the sixth inning on a single to the left of the diamond. Northern Colorado saw two runners on base with no outs but would be calmly retired by the Central Connecticut defense.

GAME TWO

The Razobacks pitcher Autumn Storms pitched the eighth no-hitter in program history on Saturday night at Bogle Park in a 7-0 shutout victory to improve Arkansas's record to improve to 14-1 on the season.

Arkansas scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning following two hits and three CCSU defensive errors. The Razorbacks would collect another run to take a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after striking three straight singles off CCSU's starting senior pitcher Emily Sargent.

Loren Kryzsko gave Arkansas two more runs on a home run to center field in the bottom of the third. The Razorbacks would gain one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Sargent pitched all six innings for CCSU and moved her record to 0-2 on the year.

Central Connecticut will face Dartmouth at 9:00 a.m. and Arkansas again at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
