Softball Drops a Pair of Games vs. UNC Wilmington and #16 Georgia on Friday
Central opened the season with a pair of games on the road at Georgia
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped a pair of games to open the 2017 season on Friday. Central, playing at the Eighth Annual Bulldog Invitational at Georgia, fell 10-0 to UNC Wilmington in the opener and then battled to a 5-2 loss to #16 Georgia in the night cap.
Following a loss to UNCW in the opener, the Blue Devils rallied to battle the nationally-ranked Bulldogs in the second game of the day on Friday.
The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single from freshman Sarah Ogilvie. The home team answered with three runs in the second inning and two more in the third off of Ogilvie, who was starting the first game of her career for the Blue Devils.
Junior Emily Sargent relieved Ogilvie in the fourth inning and didn't allow a run while surrendering just two hits and striking out one Georgia batter.
The Blue Devils cut the lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from junior Alexis Debrosse. She finished the game with a pair of hits and an RBI. Sophomore Kaitlin Paterson also had two hits for the Blue Devils in the loss.
In the first game the Blue Devils fell 10-0 to UNC Wilmington in a game that went six innings. The Blue Devils totaled four hits but the Seahawks, now 8-2 overall, tallied 10 hits, and held the Blue Devils scoreless.
Sargent pitched all six-innings for the Blue Devils. She finished with three strikeouts and also had a pair of walks. The Blue Devils committed three errors in the field, leading to three unearned runs in the loss.
Ogilvie and fellow freshman Kaleigh Edwards each had singles in the third and fifth inning, respectively. Paterson and sophomore Kerri Dadalski also recorded hits for CCSU.
Central is back in action on Saturday facing UNC Wilmington at 10:30 a.m. and Georgia at 3:30 p.m.
