Messina, Debrosse Earn NEC Weekly Honors
For the second-straight week, junior Laura Messina and freshman Alexis Debrosse have been tabbed with NEC honors.
For the second-straight week, junior Laura Messina and freshman Alexis Debrosse have been honored with NEC weekly awards, the conference announced Monday. Messina was tabbed NEC Pitcher of the Week and Debrosse earned NEC Co-Rookie of the Week for their impressive performances this past weekend at the Hampton Tournament in Hampton, VA.
Messina takes home Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. The junior started all three games for CCSU this past weekend, going 3-0, and helped the Blue Devils (5-3) earn two shutouts. She posted an ERA of 0.64 and tallied 17 strikeouts in 11 innings. She allowed just six hits and one run over the weekend.
So far this season, Messina posts a 5-1 record and 0.66 ERA. Following the weekend's action, she now has 496 career strikeouts and is just four away from reaching 500.
Debrosse continued her impressive start this past weekend at the Hampton Tournament. The freshman posted four hits, six RBI and three runs over the weekend batting .444 and slugging .778. She completed the weekend with an on-base percentage of .500 and no errors.
In Saturday's matchup against St. Bonaventure, Debrosse blasted a three-run homer going 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in a total of five RBI.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to return to action Friday, March 14th against St. Joseph's at the USF Spring Break Tournament in Clearwater, FL.
