Softball Gets Split on the Road at St. Francis (PA) on Saturday

Central Connecticut improves to 14-22 on the season and 5-5 in the Northeast Conference after splitting a doubleheader with St.Francis (PA) on Saturday. The Red Flash move to 10-29 on the season and 2-10 in the NEC after the split. Senior Jaclyn Logan went 3-5 with four RBI on the afternoon. Sophomore Abby Harpp took the win for the Blue Devils in game two allowing three earned runs while striking out three Red Flash batters.

In game one Central Connecticut took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by senior Sara Budrick, scoring sophomore Rebecca Mussatti, who had reached on a double to left field.

The Red Flash was able to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning with a single run.

St. Francis (PA) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, 3-1, by scoring a pair of runs. A two RBI double to right center field gave the Red Flash the 3-1 lead.

Central Connecticut immediately answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 3-3. Logan plated the two runs on a double to right fieldm scoring both Budrick and junior Katherine Knowles. CCSU took the lead in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single up the middle by Logan.

The Flash scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win.

In game two the Blue Devils rebounded with a 5-4 win to earn the split of the doubleheader. Central scored two runs in the top of the third inning on a RBI double to centerfield by Knowles. Logan followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Budrick for the second run of the inning.

The Blue Devils added two more runs in the top of the second inning on a two out two RBI single. They took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Red Flash was able to tie the game with a solo home run to center field.

Central scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth when Knowles reached base on a fielding error by the third baseman, scoring Mussatti on the play making the score 5-4.

Central will return to action Sunday, April 18 at 12:00 p.m. for a Northeast Conference match-up in Moon Township, PA where they will play the Colonials of Robert Morris.
