Norstrom Leads CCSU at NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships
Alex Norstrom finished in 51st place out of a field of 254 runners.
Coming off of one of the most memorable Northeast Conference Championship performances two weeks ago, the Central Connecticut nine-time men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 10. The University of Buffalo hosted the top-tier meet at Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, NY. CCSU finished 25th out of 37 total teams across the 10K course on a blistery afternoon in Buffalo.
Junior Alex Norstrom led the Blue Devils with an impressive finish in 51st place out of a field of 254 runners. Norstrom turned-in a time of 33:16.8.
The 2017 NEC Individual runner-up, junior Austin Trainor proceeded his fellow classmate in 116th place with a final 10,000 meter course time of 34:22.1. Senior Ryan Hertzog crossed the finish shortly after at 34:41.2 in 140th place.
Sophomores Roberto Piotto and Richard Grudzwick were the fourth and fifth CCSU members to come in. Piotto placed 167th after running a 35:05.5 and Grudzwick recorded a time of 35:47.9 in 192nd place.
Rookie Charlie Taubl chased down Grudzwick and finished less than a second behind the sophomore on his heels in 193rd place with a time of 35:48.1.
Freshman Jonathan Gill, the 2017 NEC Rookie of the Year, rounded out the seven Central runners. Gill came in 205th after finishing at 36:03.3.
