Raymond, Piotto Earn NEC Weekly Awards
Senior Tyler Raymond and freshman Robert Piotto were given Northeast Conference weekly honors for their efforts at the CCSU Mini-Meet last Friday.
Central Connecticut men's cross country runners earned a pair of Northeast Conference weekly awards it was announced on Tuesday. Senior Tyler Raymond was named Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week and freshman Robert Piotto was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week after competing at the annual CCSU Mini-Meet at Stanley Quarter Park, last Friday.
Raymond received his first NEC Athlete of the Week award after placing third at the CCSU Mini-Meet, finishing just over a second out of second place. He completed the 5K varsity event in 15:02.52 in a field of 117 runners to pace the Blue Devils in the final meet before the NEC Championships.
Piotto completed the sub-varsity 5K race in second place, covering the course in 15:30.97 at the CCSU Mini-Meet. Piotto was the only freshman who finished in the top five in the event.
The Central men's cross country team head to Saint Francis U. in Loretto, PA, to race in the 2016 NEC Cross Country Championships at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29th.
