Freshman Alex Norstrom of the Central Connecticut men’s cross country team was named the Northeast Conference Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Alex Norstrom of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team was named the Northeast Conference Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Norstrom helped lead the Blue Devils to a sixth place overall finish at the Stony Brook Invitational, the team's opening meet of the 2015 season.

Norstrom paced the six-time defending NEC champion Blue Devils at the Stony Brook Invitational this past Saturday, turning in a time of 19:17.84 for a 15th place overall finish. He was the first Blue Devil and first NEC rookie to complete the 6K course, averaging a 5:10.60 mile. The meet featured 57 student-athletes across six different teams.

Norstrom and the rest of the men's cross country team will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Nassaney Invitational at the University of Bryant. The course in Smithfield, RI will be the same course the Blue Devils will face this season for the 2015 NEC Championships.
