Men's XC Ends Season With 11th Place Finish At IC4A Championships
The Blue Devils finished 11th at the 106th running of the ICAAAA Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday in the Bronx, NY.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team finished 11th out 15 teams in the championship division of the 106th running of the ICAAAA Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon. The five mile championship race was held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, NY and the Blue Devils finished with 283 total points to claim 11th place.
Junior Matt Walker was the first Blue Devil to cross the finish line for CCSU. Walker finished in 17th place out of 121 competitors with a time of 25:32.6 to pace the Blue Devils. Senior Patrick Hubbell was the next representative from CCSU to cross the finish line in 26th place. Hubbell finished the race in 25:52.3.
Sophomore Thomas Lupoli crossed the finish line third for the Blue Devils in 67th place. He finished the five mile course in 26:46.0. Right behind Lupoli was fellow classmate Ryan Hertzog in 79th place. Hertzog recorded a time of 27:12.2.
Rounding out the runners for CCSU in the championship race was freshman Eric Davidson. Davidson finished in 118th place with a final time of 29:02.3.
Columbia won the ICAAAA Championships with a score of 65 points followed by Princeton (72), Georgetown (86), Harvard (114) and Iona (118) to round out the top-five. George Mason finished sixth with a team score of 137 points followed by St. Joseph's (185), Rider (246), Boston College (275) and Pittsburgh (281). Central finished 11th with an average time of 26:53.38 to score 283 points and finish ahead of Northeastern (312), Temple (330), La Salle (346) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (394).
The ICAAAA race marks the end of the cross country season for the Blue Devils. The men finished the 2014 season with four top-five finishes, including three overall victories. They went undefeated on their home course, Stanley Quarter Park, winning the Ted Owen Invitational and then the CCSU Mini Meet before capturing their sixth-straight NEC Championship on Nov. 1.
