Men's Cross Country 17th At Northeast Regionals
The Blue Devils will return to Van Cortlandt Park next weekend for the IC4A/ECAC Championships (Nov. 22).
The six-time Northeast Conference defending champion, Central Connecticut men's cross country team, finished 17th at the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY. The Blue Devils were led by junior Matt Walker and his 48th place individual finish. The meet featured 39 teams and 261 of the best cross country athletes in the northeast region.
RESULTS
Walker ran the 10-K race in a time of 31:28.4 on a 5:03.9 mile pace to cross the finish line first for CCSU. Finishing second for the Blue Devils was sophomore Ryan Hertzog in 76th place with a time of 31:47.9. His 76th place finish came on a 5:07 mile pace.
The NEC individual champion, senior Patrick Hubbell, finished just outside the top-100 in 113th place. Hubbell crossed the finish line with a time of 32:24.5.
Rounding out the scoring runners for CCSU was sophomore Thomas Lupoli and junior Tyler Raymond. Lupoli finished fourth for the Blue Devils and crossed the finish line in 145th place with a time of 32:54.2. Raymond finished right behind Lupoli in 149th place with a time of 32:58.2.
Freshman Colin Sauter and sophomore Malcolm Connor also competed for CCSU at the meet. Sauter, the NEC Freshman of the Year, finished in 203rd and crossed the finish line with a time of 33:48.2. Connor finished in 244th with a time of 35:09.8.
The Blue Devils earned a score of 531 points to put them in 17th position. They finished with a total time of 2:41:32 and an average team time of 32:18.
Syracuse won the Northeast Region Championships with a team score of 45, finishing with all of their scoring runners in the top-15. Providence was right behind them with 48 points followed by Iona (60), Columbia (126) and Cornell (141) to round out the top-five teams.
CCSU was the first team to represent the Northeast Conference and finished 19 spots ahead of Bryant (1,063), the next NEC team. Sacred Heart finished 39th with a team score of 1,184.
The Blue Devils will return to Van Cortlandt Park again next weekend to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships on November 22.
