Hubbell And Sauter Earn NEC Weekly Honors
The Blue Devils won the 12th Annual CCSU Mini Meet on Friday, Oct. 24.
Senior Patrick Hubbell and freshman Colin Sauter of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team were recognized by the Northeast Conference after their performances at the CCSU Mini Meet last Friday afternoon. Hubbell was named NEC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week while Sauter was named NEC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Hubbell led the Blue Devils to victory at the CCSU Mini Meet that was hosted by CCSU at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain and featured 19 teams and 127 competitors in the varsity race. Individually, Hubbell won the 5K race with a time of 14:51.28. The veteran was less than six seconds shy of breaking the course record and finished more than six seconds ahead of the second place runner. His time was the fastest recorded 5K time in the NEC so far this season.
Sauter finished 23rd out of 127 at the CCSU Mini Meet. The rookie finished the 5K varsity race with a time of 15:29.40 and was the first freshman to cross the finish line to represent the Northeast Conference. Sauter finished fifth for the Blue Devils running at a 5:00 pace and helped CCSU score 52 points and claim first place at the CCSU Mini Meet.
This is the second time this season that the duo have earned these awards in the same week. They also garnered these awards following their performances at the Ted Owen Invitational in September. Sauter also earned Rookie of the Week honors after the New England Championships on Oct. 11, making this his third weekly award this season.
The Blue Devils are now undefeated in two races at Stanley Quarter Park this year, which is also the site of the 2014 Northeast Conference Cross Country Championships. CCSU will look to capture its sixth straight NEC Championship this Saturday, Nov. 1 on its home course. The men's race is set to begin at 12 p.m.
