Hubbell And Blue Devils Victorious At CCSU Mini Meet
Patrick Hubbell won the 12th Annual CCSU Mini Meet.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team won the men's varsity race at the 12th Annual CCSU Mini Meet on Friday afternoon. CCSU played host for the afternoon as the meet took place at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The men's 5K varsity race featured 19 teams and 127 competitors. Senior Patrick Hubbell earned the victory at the CCSU Mini Meet with a time of 14:51.28, less than six seconds off the course record.
Seven runners competed for the Blue Devils in the meet and three finished in the top ten. Hubbell's first place finish was more than six seconds faster than the next closest competitor and he ran at a 4:47 pace. Crossing the finish line second for the Blue Devils was junior Matt Walker in fifth place with a time of 15:09.13. Finishing third for CCSU was sophomore Ryan Hertzog in 10th place with a time of 15:13.85.
Rounding out the scoring for CCSU was junior Tyler Raymond and freshman Colin Sauter. Raymond finished in 13th place with a time of 15:18.90 and Sauter finished in 23rd place with a time of 15:29.40.
Two other runners also competed for the Blue Devils in the meet. Sophomore Thomas Lupoli and freshman Eric Davidson finished in 32nd and 82nd place respectively. Lupoli crossed the finish line with a time of 15:34.56 and Davidson finished with a time of 16:17.93.
Central Connecticut scored just 52 points to earn the victory as a team. The Blue Devils finished with an average team time of 15:12.51 and are now undefeated as a team racing at Stanley Quarter Park over two different races this year leading up to the Northeast Conference Championships.
The Blue Devils finished 14 points better than the runner-up team Providence (68 points), and 22 points better than the third place team Yale (74 points). Rounding out the top five teams were Franklin Pierce (115) and American International (143).
Sophomores Malcolm Connor and Jamil Ferguson competed in the sub-varsity race directly after the varsity race. Connor finished in 14th place with a time of 16:17.96 and Ferguson finished 35th with a time of 16:45.61
The Blue Devils will return to action on Nov. 1 when they compete in the Northeast Conference Championships. The race is being hosted by the Blue Devils at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
