Raymond, Sauter Earn NEC Weekly Awards
Tyler Raymond and Colin Sauter earn NEC weekly honors for their performances at the New England championships.
A pair of athletes on the Central Connecticut men's cross country team were recognized by the Northeast Conference after their performances this past week at the New England Championships. Junior Tyler Raymond was tabbed NEC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week and freshman Colin Sauter earned NEC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week honors.
The Blue Devils competed this past Saturday in the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, MA. The men's race featured 262 competitors from 39 different teams of all different collegiate division levels within the New England Region.
Raymond was the first runner to cross the finish line for the Blue Devils and he was also the first to represent the Northeast Conference. Raymond finished in 24th position with a time of 25:03.56 on a 5:02.5 average mile pace. Raymond's impressive time was the fastest 8K time in the NEC to date and helped lead the Blue Devils to a seventh place finish out of 39 teams.
Sauter finished in 60th place. He was the fifth freshman to cross the finish line out of the entire race and the first rookie to represent the Northeast Conference. He ran the 8k race in a time of 25:24.64 with a 5:06.7 average mile pace.
This is the second career NEC weekly award for Raymond. He previously was a rookie of the week honoree in 2012 when he was the first freshman to cross the finish line at the CCSU Mini Meet.
The award for Sauter is his second straight rookie of the week award. Last week Sauter was tabbed co-rookie of the week after his eighth place finish at the Ted Owen Invitational.
The Blue Devils return to action on Oct. 24 when the host the CCSU Mini Meet. The race will take place at Stanley Quarter Park and the shotgun is set to go off for the men's race at 4 p.m.
