Hertzog and Davidson Earn NEC Weekly Honors
Ryan Hertzog and Eric Davidson both earned NEC cross country weekly honors.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards this week, as the NEC named sophomore Ryan Hertzog NEC Athlete of the Week and freshman Eric Davidson NEC Rookie of the week on Tuesday.
The duo both demonstrated solid performances this past Saturday at the 20th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions. The 8k race was held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, New York and featured 205 competitors.
Hertzog, a transfer from Robert Morris, crossed the finish line first for the Blue Devils with a 43rd place finish and a time of 26:52.03. He ran at a 5:25 mile pace to lead the Central Connecticut men's cross country team to an 18th place finish out of 23 teams and earn his first NEC weekly award as a Blue Devil.
Hertzog won two NEC weekly awards last season as a member of the Robert Morris men's cross country team when he was tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week twice.
Freshman Eric Davidson also won his first NEC weekly award as a Blue Devil as he crossed the finish line second for CCSU, good for a 114th place finish overall. In just his second collegiate meet he ran to a time of 28:48.78 with a 5:48 mile pace.
The Blue Devils return to action this Saturday, Sept. 27 as they host the 12th Annual Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The starting shotgun for the men's race is set to go off at 12 p.m.
