Men's XC Finishes 18th At Iona
Men's cross country will host the Ted Own Invitational next Saturday at 12 P.M.
The Central Connecticut men's cross country team finished 18th out of 23 teams at the 20th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions on Saturday. The 8k race was held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, New York and featured 205 competitors. Sophomore Ryan Hertzog paced the Blue Devils with a 43rd place finish and a time of 26:53.
Five runners competed for the Blue Devils in the race. Behind Hertzog was freshman Eric Davidson who finished 114th overall with a time of 28:49. Following Davidson was sophomore Thomas Lupoli with a 119th place finish and a time of 29:12. Junior Malcolm Connor crossed the finish line fourth for the Blue Devils in 126th place with a time of 29:43. Sophomore Jamil Ferguson rounded out the scoring for Central as he placed 134th with a time of 30:37.
CCSU finished in 18th place with 536 total points. Arkansas was the victor of the meet with 46 points followed by Fordam (67), Brown (96), UMass Lowell (132), and Buffalo (157) to round out the top-five.
Army (170), Yale (208), Binghamton (232), Yougstown St. (269), and Albany (280) finished in the next five slots to round out the top-ten. Host Iona finished 11th with 306 total points followed by Edinboro (328), Kent State (335), Unattached runners (344), and Indiana Pa. (399).
Rounding out the team scores were Conn College (446), Hofstra (479), Central Connecticut (536), Monroe College (566), St. Francis N.Y. (608), IPFW (613), Dowling (648), and NYIT with 669 points.
The Blue Devils will return home for their next meet when they host the 12th Annual Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday, September 27. The starting shot gun for the men's race is scheduled to go off at 12 p.m.
