Hunt and Lupoli Earn NEC Honors
Craig Hunt finished fifth at the New England Championships on Saturday.
Two members of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team were honored with Northeast Conference weekly awards this week, the NEC announced Tuesday. Senior Craig Hunt was named NEC Athlete of the Week and freshman Thomas Lupoli earned his second NEC Rookie of the Week honor for their performances this past weekend at the New England Championships.
Hunt led the Blue Devils to their first New England Championship title on Saturday as he finished the race fifth of 279 runners with a time of 24:27. He paced the CCSU runners with a 4:54 average mile.
Hunt finished less than a second behind the fourth-place finisher from the University of Maine and less than a minute behind the winner of the New England Championships. Hunt was the first of CCSU's five scoring runners, all of which placed in the top 28.
Lupoli had also an impressive finish in the men's sub varsity race at the New England Championships. He crossed the finish line 24th out of 241 competitors and clocked a pace of 5:18. The NEC Rookie of the Week award is his second of the season.
