Men's Track and Field Finishes Third at the Flagship Opener

CCSU men's track and field took third place at the UMass Flagship Opener today. Central snagged three first-place finishes including Yankarlos Diaz in the 5,000m race, Ed Williams Jr. In the 110m hurdles, and the Blue Devils' 4x100m relay. 

RESULTS 

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS 

• Diaz won the 5,000m race in 14:59.49 while Ryan McCauley (15:54.46 - collegiate best) and Jack Ciambra (16:02.86 - collegiate best) took eighth and ninth, respectively. 

• Williams Jr. finished first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.15. 

• Central's 4x100m relay, consisting of Tristan Burke, Williams Jr., Cam Whalen, and Jovan Dixon, snagged the top spot with a 41.74 finish. 

• CCSU dominated in the 800m run. Jake Ireland was the first Blue Devil to cross the finish line, finishing in 1:52.43 to place second. Aiden Budge was just a second behind, placing third (1:53.51), while Gabriel Kwarteng took sixth (1:56.63 - collegiate best). 

• Ireland completed in the 1,500m race in 3:52.60, good for third place. James Sullivan also competed in the event, snagging sixth with a new collegiate-best time of 3:56.01. 

• Whalen finished the 400m hurdles in 55.18 to place fourth. 

• Joseph Lauria (9:58.25 - collegiate best) and Jacob Yannone (10:15.34 - collegiate best) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000m steeplechase. 

• Dixon finished the 200m dash in 22.35, placing seventh. 

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS 

• Tyrone Mack placed second in the shot put (16.84m - collegiate best) and ninth in the discus throw (43.23m). 

• Andrew McCarthy finished eighth in the hammer throw with a 48.52m toss. 

• Nicolai Yanko competed in the high jump leaping for 1.83m to take eighth place.

The Blue Devils will head Storrs, CT this weekend for the Northeast Challenge hosted by the University of Connecticut.
