Men's Track and Field Comes Out on Top at AIC Invite

CCSU men's track and field competed at the American International College Yellowjacket Invitational this weekend in Springfield, MA. The Blue Devils snagged five first-place finishes to win the meet with 170.5 points. 

RESULTS 

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS 

• Tristan Burke finished third in the 100m dash with a personal best time of 11.00. He also ran a best time in the 200m race (22.69). 

• CCSU had four finishers in the top ten of the 1,500m run including Aiden Budge, Salvatore Masciarelli, Ryan McCauley, and Jack Ciambra. Budge and Masciarelli took the second and third spots finishing in 4:06.04 and 4:07.31, respectively. All four runners notched new personal bests in the event. 

• Cam Whalen competed in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 51.35 to place second. 

• Logan Moore took second in the 400m hurdles with a new best time of 59.14. 

• Jake Ireland (15:13.84), Mark Rodriguez (15:30.96), and Calvin Young (15:53.70) all put up lifetime best performances to placed first, third, and fifth in the 5,000m run.  

• James Sullivan and Elias Field snagged the top two spots in the 10,000m race. Sullivan crossed the finish line first to achieve a personal best time of 31:59.90. 

• Budge (1:57.19) and Christian Malave (1:58.15) secured in third and fourth spots in the 800m run. 

• Central dominated the 3,000m steeplechase taking the first, third, and fourth spots. Yankarlos Diaz led the pack, finishing in 9:40.64, while Joseph Lauria and Jacob Yannone achieved personal best times of 10:29.34 and 10:39.53, respectively. 

• The men's 4x400m relay, consisting of Whalen, Malave, Gabriel Kwarteng, and Moore, took third with a time of 3:32.52. 

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS 

• Nicolai Yanko finished third in the high jump, leaping for 1.80m. 

• Moore secured the fourth-place spot in the pole vault (4.20m) and eighth in the long jump (5.96m - personal best). 

• Andrew McCarthy won the discus throw with a 47.17m toss, while Tyrone Mack took second with a new collegiate best (45.49). 

• McCarthy also placed third in the hammer throw (45.01m). 

• Mack snagged first in the shot put (16.00m), followed by Ed Radzion in third (14.44m) 

UP NEXT 

The Blue Devils will head to Amherst, MA to compete at the Flagship Spring Opener hosted by the University of Massachusetts next weekend. The meet with take place at the UMass Track and Field Complex.
