Men's Outdoor Track and Field Stands in 5th After Day One
The Blue Devils earned 25 points in day one of the Northeast Conference Championships.
The men's track and field team currently stand in 5th place in the 2021 Northeast Conference Championships after day one, totaling 25 points. Sophomore Elias Field had a strong showing, placing second in the 10K race with a time of 30:57.56 and earning 8 points for CCSU. Wagner leads the championships after collecting 55 points as a team.
Miles Fye-Moore showed a great performance, finishing first in the 200 meter prelims with a time of 21.48. Ali Diaby was behind him, finishing in third place. Both runners will represent Central tomorrow in hopes to earn much needed points. Moore will also have a shot at the gold tomorrow in the 100m dash, after running an impressive 10.75. His time was good for second and was just .01 seconds behind the first place runner.
Richard Grudzwick placed first in the 800 meter prelims with a time of 1:55.3. The senior will have a chance to repeat as the NEC 800 meter outdoor champion, after he took gold in 2019.
Senior Nick Kocienda won the silver in the hammer throw, with a best mark of 57.79 meters. The Seaford, NY native earned 8 points for CCSU.
Freshman Jake Ireland ran a 4:09.94 in the 1500m prelims, which was just .02 seconds behind the first place finisher Trausti Thornsteins from Wagner.
Ali Diaby crossed the finish line in the 400m dash at 49.60 seconds, which was good for fourth place.
The team of Greg McGuire, Jake Ireland, Bryce Hampton, and Richard Grudzwick placed fifth in the 4 x 800m finals and collected 4 points.
