Men's Track & Field Competes at IC4A/ECAC Championships
Central recently was the runner-up at the 2019 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team had 12 representatives competing at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at William Weaver Stadium in Princeton, NJ.
In the men's 100 meter dash preliminary round, sophomore Daruis Wise led the Blue Devils finishing in 11.09 seconds. Freshman Garrett Dandridge followed clocking in at 11.12 seconds. Sophomore Miles Fye-Moore and junior Jared Creech finished with times of 11.46 and 11.50 seconds respectively.
Juniors Andrew Findley and Richard Grudzwick ran the 800 meter run. Findley clocked in at 1:53.73 and Grudzwick finished at 2:29.37. Grudzwick won the gold in the event last weekend at the Northeast Conference Championship.
Junior Roberto Piotto finished seventh in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 30:23.74. He won the silver at the NEC Championship last weekend in the event.
In the men's 110 meter hurdles, junior Quincy Sanchez finished ninth with a time of 14.93 seconds and freshman Cam Whalen came in 22nd place at 15.96 seconds.
The 4x100 relay team (Wise, Creech, Fye-Moore, and Dandridge) came in ninth with a time of 41.61 seconds. The 4x800 relay team (Findley, McNamara, Flemming, and Grudzwick) also finished ninth at 7:55.35.
Freshman Andrew McCarthy competed in the discus throw recording 41.15 meters.
NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
Seven athletes represented Central at the 2019 New England Championships on Friday and Saturday. Freshman Jason Walton and sophomore Hank Jean-Jacques ran the 400 meter dash recording times of 50.14 and 51.66 seconds respectively.
Freshman Eilas Field completed the men's 5,000 meter run in 15:51.50, earning a 27th place finish. Senior Alex Norstrom ran a personal best time of 32:15.53 coming in fourth place in the 10,000 meter, beating his previous best time of 33:29.95 that he ran at the NEC Championship last weekend.
Senior Matt Baum finished the 400 meter hurdles in 55.60 seconds coming in 14th and freshman Laurenzo Thompkins finished the event in 58.15 seconds.
Junior Julio Arredondo earned a 16th place finish after completing the 1,500 meter run in 4:00.43. Freshman Robert Moore ran the steeplechase, finishing with a time of 10:12.06.
