Central to Host NEC Outdoor Championships
The Northeast Conference Championship will be held May 4-5.
The Central Connecticut men's and women's outdoor track teams will host the 2019 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track Championships on Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5 in New Britain, CT. Highlights and interviews from the men's and women's championships will be posted after all of the races on NEC Front Row.

All NEC students with proper institutional I.D. will be admitted free. All other individuals will be charged admission. Ticket prices are $10 per day for adults, $5 per day for those under 18. Children 10 years of age and under will be admitted free. Two-day tickets also will be available, $15 for adults and $8 for children 10 to 18 years of age. All tickets will be sold at the entrance of Arute Field Stadium.
The meet will begin with the women's javelin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and day one will conclude with the men's 4x800 relay at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, the men's javelin will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the meet will close with the men's 4x400 relay followed by the closing award ceremony at 4:45 p.m.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
Last season, the men's outdoor track and field team finished as the 2018 NEC Runner-Up just a mere two points shy of the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers. Central totaled 170 points and took home an impressive 15 medals across the two-day meet including four gold, four silver, and seven bronze. Junior Marquis Ward was named the 2018 Most Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps) after winning silver in the long jump, third in the high jump, and fourth in the triple jump.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The women's track team is coming off of its second straight year as the NEC Runner-Up. Last season, Central totaled 128 points, less than 10 points behind the 2018 NEC Champions Sacred Heart. The New Britain crew won nine medals including four gold, three silver, and two bronze. Senior Sierra Nesmith won two of the four gold medals (triple jump, 400m hurdles) and was named the 2018 Most Valuable Performer becoming the first female athlete to receive the honor in CCSU outdoor track and field program history.
