Men's Track and Field Close Out at Joe Donahue Games
Richard Grudzwick won the 500-meter event.
On Friday, January 18, the men's indoor track and field team competed at the Joe Donahue Games inside the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. Junior Richard Grudzwick won the 500-meter run with an impressive time of 1:06.26.
In the shot put, junior Nana Kissi came in fifth-place with a 13.26 meter toss followed by sophomore J'Von Brown in sixth-place at 13.23 meters. Rookies Andrew McCarthy and Ed Radizon sets personal bests with 11.43 and 12.64 meters respectively finishing in eighth and ninth place.
McCarthy also recorded a personal best in the weighted throw finishing in eighth after a 12.25 meter throw. Radizon finished 11th at 10.74 meters.
Two Blue Devils, junior Tyrik Henry and sophomore Trevor Glymph competed in the triple jump. Henry jumped 13.06 meters finishing fourth and Glymph finished seventh at 12.33 meters.
Freshman Garrett Dandridge and sophomore Miles Fye-Moore finished the 60-meter dash less than one second apart. Fye-Moore finished second at 7.135 seconds with Dandridge crossing the line at 7.137 for third place.
Henry and freshman Cam Whalen both finished the 60-meter hurdles in the top five. Henry completed the event in 8.47 and Whalen 8.77.
Junior Roberto Piotto represented Central in the one-mile finishing in fourth-place at 4:21.95. Classmate Julio Arredondo took second-place in the 1,000-meter run crossing the finish line at 2:33.65.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Jason Walton finished in 51.48 for a third-place finish followed by classmate Qasim Danazumi who set a personal best finishing in fourth-place at 51.64 and senior Matt Baum in sixth-place at 52.01. Junior Qunicy Sanchez was last in for CCSU in 14th place with a time of 56.15.
Eight Blue Devils ran in the 200-meter dash. Dandridge and Fye-Moore came in second and third place at times of 22.63 and 22.67 respectively. Next was junior Jarred Creech and Danazumi with times of 23.22 and 23.27. Whalen followed in 15th place at 23.61 and freshman Jason Walton in 18th place at 23.72. Rounding up the Central runners were Sanchez and Andrew D'Ovidio finishing with times of 23.76 and 24.34.
The distance medley team consisting of Andruw Flemming, Tim McNamara, Grudzwick, and Moroni Lima earned a third-place finish with a time of 10:56.67.
Fye-Moore, Baum, Grudzwick, and D'Ovidio represented Central in the 4x400 relay and finished fourth in 3:28.03.
The men's indoor track and field team competes next on Friday, January 25 in the John Thomas Invitational in Boston, MA.
