Trainor Competes in Steeplechase at NCAA Track East Prelim
Three-time Northeast Conference champion closes out career at NCAA Preliminary.
Senior Austin Trainor of the Central Connecticut men's track and field team ran in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday night at the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, FL, at the University of South Florida Track & Field Stadium. Trainor turned in a time of 9:23.09 in his heat. The top three finishers in each heat, in addition to the next three best times, advanced to the national championships.

Trainor placed 15th in his heat and ranked 43rd overall. He entered the meet seeded 26th in the field of 48 runners. The All-Northeast Conference First Team selection, he turned in a time of 9:19.08 to win the steeplechase at the conference championships for the third time. Trainor also turned in a time of 8:57.78 at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and placed second in the event.
The East Preliminary concludes on Saturday, May 26. at the University of South Florida Track & Field Stadium. The top 12 qualifiers out of the two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 6-9 in Eugene, OR.
