Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-NEC Honors Announced
Sophomore Marquis Ward was named Most Outstanding Performer (Jumps)
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track & field team collected All-Northeast Conference honors in seven events it was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. Sophomore Marquis Ward was one of the league's top performers being named Most Outstanding Performer (Jumps).
Ward was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps) after winning silver in the long jump, third in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump at the NEC Championships. Ward jumped 7.14 meters to place second in the long jump and earn All-NEC Second Team honors. He cleared 1.91 meters in the high jump and leapt 14.09 meters in the triple jump.
Senior Austin Trainor, who will be competing at this weekend's NCAA East Prelims, was named First Team All-NEC in the steeple chase. He won the event at the conference championships by .03 seconds, posting a time of 9:19.08. He placed second at the ECAC/IC4A Championships with a time of 8:57.78.
Sophomore Richard Grudzwick earned All-NEC First Team in the 800m after winning the title with a time of 1:54.74. Senior Tyler Latham also earned All-NEC First Team honors in javelin. He defended his title in the event with a throw of 62.06 meters, which also set a personal-record.
The Blue Devils' 4x800 meter relay team earned All-NEC Second Team honors. The relay of Trainor, Grudzwick, junior Adonys Langual and sophomore Julio Arredondo clocked a time of 7:49.69 at the NEC champinoships.
Sophomore Roberto Piotto also earned All-NEC Second Team honors with a time of 31:18.22 in the 10,000 meter run. Sophomore Kevorni Welsh posted a mark of 14.21 meters in the triple jump to earn Second Team honors.
Trainor and senior Alex Norstrom will compete at the NCAA East Prelims. Norstrom will run the 10,000 meters on Thursday and Trainor will run the steeple chase on Friday.
