Men's Track Competes at UConn and Bucknell
CCSU split up to take on the Northeast Challenge and the Bison Outdoor Classic.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team split up to compete at the UConn Northeast Challenge and the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday. The Blue Devils sent a select few to Storrs, CT to compete against the top athletes in the Northeast region.
Senior Austin Trainor and sophomore Richard Grudzwick ran in the 1,500 meter run at Bucknell. Grudzwick, in his first time competing in the event, ran a time of 3:51.64 and placed 27th. Trainor finished 51st overall with a time of 3:56.64. Senior Alex Norstrom and sophomore Roberto Piotto both competed in the 10,000 meter run. Norstrom set a new personal record time of 29:57.96 to place fourth overall and Piotto also ran a top-collegiate time of 30:16.10, good for 11th place.
Senior Darryn Horner placed 12th in the 100 meter dash with a personal best time of 10.88 seconds. Freshman Miles Fye-Moore was 14th with mark of 10.90 seconds, also a new personal record. Rookie Darius Wise also competed in the event, running a mark of 11.28 seconds.
Fye-Moore and Wise also competed in the 200 meter dash. Fye-Moore placed 18th with personal record of 22.57 seconds and Wise was 22nd with a time of 23.06 seconds.
CCSU saw one runner in the 400 meter dash finals, sophomore Jack St. Clair, who placed 19th overall with a time of 50.60 seconds.
Sophomore Julio Arredondo finished 14th in the 800 meter dash with a time of 1:56.89 and junior Adonys Langual turned in a time of 1:59.08, good for 18th place.
Arredondo placed 21st in 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:06.07.
Junior Quincy Sanchez placed sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a collegiate best time of 14.70 seconds. Sanchez snagged his second personal best time of the day in the 400m hurdles (54.83) while placing ninth. Sophomore Matt Baum placed 18th with a time of 58.20 seconds.
Central's lone runner in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, senior Kyle Welch, placed 10th overall with a time of 10:35.79.
The Blue Devils 4x400 meter relay team of Langual, St. Clair, Baum and Sanchez placed 15th with a time of 3:35.41.
In the high jump, sophomore Kevorni Welsh placed sixth with a personal record mark of 1.94 meters. Junior Jeremy Hopwood scored a new personal best in the pole vault while taking fifth place with a mark of 4.65 meters.
Sophomore Marquis Ward set new long jump personal record on Saturday. Ward placed 13th to lead CCSU with a mark of 6.83 meters. Welsh finished 21st with a jump of 6.54 meters and St. Clair was 25th with a mark 6.42 meters and Creech leapt 5.73 meters.
Second-year Blue Devil Jarred Creech placed 18th with a triple jump of 12.67 meters.
Sophomore Nana Kissi led Central with an 11th place personal record throw of 14.07 meters in the shot put. Junior KJ Smith placed 16th with 13.67 meters. Freshman Jack Godfrey threw for 12.30 meters.
Freshman Christian Heyward placed 17th in the discus with a mark of 38.65 meters and freshman Jack Godfrey was 27th with a throw of 33.45 meters. Kissi threw for a mark 31.59 meters and finished in 29th place.
Kissi rounded out the day with a javelin throw of 56.23 meters to place ninth.
The CCSU men's track and field team will compete next Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium in Princeton, NJ.
