Latham Takes Runner-Up in SCSU's Decathlon
Latham scored a personal best 6,631 points to take second place in the Decathlon at SCSU.
Senior Tyler Latham was the Southern Connecticut Northeast Combined Events Challenge Decathlon runner-up with a personal best total of 6,631 points on Friday. Fellow senior Sam Borecki placed 14th overall with 4,732 points to represent CCSU.
After leading the standings after the first day of the Decathlon on Thursday, Latham picked up right where he left off, winning the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30 (-0.2W) seconds. Latham's discus throw of 33.40 meters was good for a fourth place finish.
Latham placed 12th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.10 meter. Latham was the javelin throw runner-up with a distance of 53.67 meters. The multifaceted Blue Devil concluded the final event of the Decathlon, the 1,500 meter run, with a third place finish and a time of 4:47.28.
Borecki took 13th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.73 seconds. The senior threw for 22.75 meters in the discus throw, good for 15th place. The senior did not score in the polve vault.
Borecki finished in eighth place in the 1,500 meter event.
The CCSU men's track and field team will split up tomorrow, Saturday, to compete at Bucknell and UConn. At Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic junior Alex Norstrom and sophomore Roberto Piotto will compete in the 1,000 meter run and sophomore Richard Grudzwick and senior Austin Trainor will run in the 1,500 meter run.
The rest of the team will take its talents to Storrs, CT to compete at the Connecticut Northeast Challenge.
