Gill, Borecki Awarded Northeast Conference Weekly Honors
The NEC named GIll the Rooke of the Week and Borecki the Co-Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Senior Sam Borecki and freshman Jonathan Gill received Northeast Conference weekly awards as announced by the league's front office on Tuesday afternoon. Borecki was named the Co-Field Athlete of the Week and Gill earned the Rookie of the Week honor after their impressive results at the Boston Univeristy David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday, February 10.
Preparing for his NEC Indoor Championships debut, Gill ran the 800m at Boston University's and posted an IC4A Championship qualifying time in the process. The CCSU rookie won his heat in 1:54.46, edging out UMass senior Russell Wells. The performance moved Gill into second place on the NEC leader board one week ahead of the league's championship meet.
The former NEC champion matched his seasonal best in the pole vault last time out at Boston U. Borecki, who ranks second amongst league leaders behind Wagner's Noel Del Cerro, cleared 4.95 (16' 2.75") on his first attempt and edged UConn's Ian Bergere for third place at BU as a result.
The 2018 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place on this Friday and Saturday, February 16-17 hosted by Wagner in Staten Island, NY at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
