Trainor Crowned 1,000 Meter Run Champion to lead Central at New England Championships
Trainor won the 1,000 meter run with a personal record time of 2:27.08.
Senior Austin Trainor was crowned the 2018 New England champion in the 1,000 meter run to lead Central Connecticut who finished in eighth place at the New England Championships with a total of 23.33 points. Trainor ran a personal best time of 2:27.08, besting his old personal record of 2:28.79 set earlier this season at the Joe Donahue Games.
Junior Akiel Smith earned the bronze medal in the 200 meter dash while crushing his old personal record time of 22.16 seconds with a new best mark of 21.80 seconds. Smith also placed fourth in the 60 meter dash, tying his personal record time of 6.89 seconds for the Blue Devils. Freshman Miles Fye-Moore also competed in the event, but did not qualify for the finals sprinting a time of 23.09.
The Central Connecticut 4x400 meter relay ran a season best time of 3:23.03 to place 12th at the New England Championships. The quartet included sophomore Jack St. Clair, Latham, Fye-Moore and Gill.
Freshman Jonathan Gill placed eighth overall with a time of 1:56.18. Sophomore Julio Arredondo followed Trainor in the 1,000 meter run, placing 14th with a time of 2:32.69.
Sophomore Amaziah Gadson took 12th in the high jump after clearing the 1.99 meter bar. Senior Sam Borecki placed eighth in the pole vault with a jump of 4.70 meters.
Senior Mike Lang placed ninth in the long jump to lead CCSU with a jump of 6.99 meters. Latham and St. Clair also competed in the event, jumping 6.58 meters and 6.34 meters, respectively. In the triple jump, sophomore Marquis Ward leapt 13.21 meters.
Senior Tyler Latham ran a 8.71 time in the 60 meter hurdle preliminary round but did not advance. The men's DMR finished in seventh overall with a time of 10:37.96. Gill, Arredondo, Baum and Langual ran in the medley for CCSU.
In the 500 meter dash, junior Matt Baum ran a time of 1:08.30 and junior Adonys Langual finished at 1:09.21. Freshman Christopher Dency was the lone Blue Devil competing in the mile run and turned in a time of 4:38.66.
Central Connecticut will compete next on February 10 at Boston University's David Hemery Invite.
