Alston Takes Home NEC Weekly Honor on Tuesday
The junior hurdle expert leads the NEC in the 60m hurdles after his top performance on Friday at Wagner.
Junior Edwin Alston of the Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team was acknowledged as the Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the league's front office on Tuesday afternoon.
Alston opened his indoor season by out-dueling NEC rival Dylan Beard in the 60m hurdles at the Wagner Invite. Surging into first place on the conference leader board, Alston struck gold by hurdling his way to the finish in 8.01. The third-year Blue Devil, who finished second to Beard at the 2017 NEC Indoor Championships, holds an 0.05-second lead over his rival on the league's performance list.
Regionally, Alston's finals time ranks fouth overall amongst IC4A Championships qualifiers. Beard (8.06) is one spot behind in fifth.
Alston, and the rest of the Central Connecticut indoor track and field team will compete on Saturday, Jan. 13 inside of Coxe Cage in New Haven, CT for the Yale Collegiate Invitational.
