Blue Devils Fire Up Track & Field Season at UConn
The men's heptathlon is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Four Central Connecticut track and field athletes will open the 2017-18 indoor season on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7-8, at Connecticut's Multi Event Challenge held at the Hugh S. Greer Field House in Storrs, CT. The men's heptathlon is kick off the Huskies meet at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday and will continue Friday at 12:15 p.m. The women's pentathlon is schedule for noon on Friday.
Competing for CCSU men under the direction of head coach Eric Blake, are two seniors, Tyler Latham and Sam Borecki. Borecki and Latham are both coming off of a stellar outdoor seasons for Central en route to the team's fourth consecutive NEC Title. The veteran was crowned the 2017 NEC Pole Vault Champion after a personal-best leap of 4.50 meters last spring.
The reigning 2017 NEC Javelin Champion, Latham threw for 59.95 meters at last year's outdoor conference title meet. Latham's top-heptathlon score came during the 2015 season at Southern Connecticut's Elm City Challenge with 5019 points. Borecki's personal-best score of 3753 points also came at the Elm City Challenge last season.
Junior McKenna Kilian and sophomore Hailey Rospierski will represent the women's squad on Friday in the pentathlon. Rospierski was named the 2017 Co-Most Oustanding Rookie Performer after helping the CCSU women's outdoor team to a second place finish at last year's championship. The sophomore won the NEC high jump with a person record of 1.67 meters.
Both Kilian and Rospierski enter the five-event challenge with top scores from the 2016 Elm City Challenge. Kilian's personal best is 3098 and Rospierski looks to up her 2900 top mark.
