Raymond Takes Bronze In 3K at NEC Championships, Men's Track Sends 11 To Finals on Saturday
Senior Tyler Raymond led the way for Central, taking home bronze in the 3,000 meter run final on Friday.
Senior Tyler Raymond claimed the bronze medal in the 3,000 meter run final on Friday, February 17 at the 2017 Northeast Conference Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY. The Blue Devils qualified 11 to compete in the finals on Saturday.
Raymond crossed the finish line at 8:31.50, earning six points for CCSU. Junior Ryan Hertzog followed in sixth-place overall, while running a collegiate personal-best time of 8:42.77.
2017 NEC CHAMPIONSHIP HEADQUARTERS
Freshman Marquis Ward scored 1.5 points for Central in the finals of the long jump, finishing seventh with a distance of 6.59 meters.
In the 60 meter hurdles, CCSU qualified three finalists for Saturday. Sophomore Edwin Alston turned in the fourth-fastest time at 8.14, classmate Quincy Sanchez finished seventh at 8.33 and junior Tyler Latham grabbed the eighth spot with a time of 8.34.
Junior Jevon Elmore ran a 7.03 time in the 60 meter dash for Central to qualify for the final.
The Blue Devils have a trio of runners in the final of the mile. Senior Josesph Gioielli led the three qualifiers, placing second with a time of 4:23.65. Freshman Julio Arredondo clocked in at 4:29.55 and junior Austin Trainor qualified with a time of 4:29.56.
Sophomore Richard Grudzwick crossed the finish line in 1:05.72, turning in the second-fastest time in the 500 meter run. Senior Will Ribeiro turned in the fifth-fastest time with a mark of 1:07.49.
Gioielli placed third in the 800 meter dash with a time of 1:57.41 and senior Malcolm Connor placed sixth (1:57.87).
