Trains picks up Northeast Conference weekly honor.
The Northeast Conference named Central Connecticut junior, Austin Trainor, as the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday. Trainor was acknowledged by the NEC for his record breaking performances last Saturday, February 11 at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Trainor enjoyed a record showing at the BU Hemery Valentine Invitational, setting a personal best in the mile while also contributing to the fastest DMR in CCSU history. The Empire State product ran the mile in 4:09.63 to move past Sacred Heart's Trevor Guerrera for first place on the NEC leader board.
In addition to topping the IC4A Championships qualifying standard in the mile by nearly 5.0 seconds, Trainor helped CCSU's DMR team climb up to seventh place on the IC4A regional performance list. The Blue Devils clocked in at 9:46.12, breaking a six-year old program record.
After breaking a total of 10 personal records, the Blue Devils and Trainor take their momentum to compete at the Northeast Conference Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 17-18, inside Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Complex in Staten Island, New York.
