Latham Leads Elm City Classic After Day 1 on Friday
Junior Tyler Latham holds first place at the Elm City Challenge at Southern Connecticut State, accumulating 2908 points at the end of day one.
Central Connecticut juniors Tyler Latham and Sam Borecki represented the Central Connecticut men's indoor track team at Southern Connecticut's Elm City Challenge in New Haven, CT on Friday. Latham holds first place in the men's heptathlon standings after accumulating 2908 points overall, 177 points ahead of the second place competitor, at the end of day one. Borecki earned himself a spot in fifth place, with 2361 points through four events.
The 2016-17 indoor track events for the two juniors began at 10:00 am, with the 55 meter dash. Latham notched first place, clocking in a new personal best time of 6.80 seconds, missing the meet record by .09. Borecki ran the 55 meters in 6.92, good for a fourth place finish in the first event.
Latham then took second place in the long jump (6.55m) and Borecki sprung 5.90 meters, landing in tenth place. The first place leader found his way back to the top in the Elm City Challenge's third event, shot put, throwing an event best 12.98, earning 666 points. The other Blue Devil junior, threw 8.75 meters (11th place).
The final event of the men's heptathlon, the high jump, featured Latham tying his third number one finish on the day, recording a 1.95 meter height, and 758 of his 2908 total points. Borecki claimed his best event finish for last, grabbing the third place spot, after jumping 1.83 meters.
The Blue Devil duo will resume action tomorrow, Dec. 3 at 10:00 a.m. for the final day of the Elm City Challenge.
