Men's Soccer Stopped by Sacred Heart in Season Finale

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell in its season finale to Sacred Heart, 1-0, on Thursday night in Northeast Conference action at New Britain, CT. The Blue Devils were unable to overcome an early goal by the Pioneers.

• Sacred Heart scored the game's only goal, just over five minutes into the game, when David Garcia Gallego picked up the ball just outside the penalty area and  sent a low shot to the left side of the goal that found the back of the net to make it 1-0.
• The Blue Devils would push for a goal to level the scoring and outshot the Pioneers, 6-3, in the first half, but only managed to put one shot on frame.
• The Pioneers defense made the first half goal stand up by not allowing CCSU to get off a shot in the second half.

"I'm proud of the team's performance despite the result," said head coach David Kelly. "For long stretches, I thought that we were the better team. I am especially proud of our four seniors: Sean Gannon, Nick Wlodarczyk, Daniel Wilmore and Mitch Lyons. They have given their heart and soul in helping to build this program back into a championship team, and I am in their debt for their dedication to the cause. They'll be missed! Ivan Farias-Martinez, Austin Rocke and Caden Gallagher also stood out tonight. They were warriors in a difficult conference match. Our guys were in every match this season. But the final result was too often elusive. My staff and I know where the program is , where it's headed, and how to get there. We'll be relentless until we're back on top!"
