Kanebog Named NEC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Eric Kanebog of the Central Connecticut men's soccer squad was named the Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office. Kanebog figured in a pair of goals in the Blue Devils' season-opening win over Hartford last week.
Kanebog sparked the Blue Devils attack after checking into the game in the 23rd minute. He made an immediate impact just seven minutes later when he took a cross from the endline and buried a shot on his first touch to make it 1-0. He added an assist with 25 minutes to play when he laid off a ball for fellow countryman Birk Martinsen from the top of the 18-yard box setting up the third goal of the game.
Kanebog helped spark CCSU in opening the season with a victory for the first time since 2014 and gain its first win against Hartford since Sept. 6, 2011. The four goals marked the first time Central tallied multiple goals in a season-opener for the first time since a 2-0 win over Yale on August 31, 2012.
CCSU will host St. Bonaventure on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
